Crown Cleaning and Thinning:

This type of pruning involves removing dead or diseased branches from the canopy to reduce weight on limbs and increase air circulation within the tree’s crown. It also helps open up a view by thinning out dense foliage so that more light can reach the lower parts of the tree.

Structural Pruning for Safety and Aesthetics:

Structural pruning focuses on improving form or function through careful removal of certain branches. This type of pruning is done to create a strong structure with evenly spaced branches that are less likely to break during storms or heavy winds. Stump Grinding

Stump grinding is an important part of any tree care service. It involves the removal of unwanted stumps from your property and can help to create a smooth surface for landscaping purposes. Stump grinding also allows for new plant growth, as it grinds down the stump to below ground level.

When it comes to removing stumps, there are several options available. The most common method is using a mechanical grinder that uses blades or discs to cut away at the wood until it’s gone. This process can be time consuming and costly but offers complete tree stump removal in one go.

Another option is chemical treatment which involves applying herbicides directly onto the stump itself in order to kill off its root system and cause decay over time, resulting in its eventual disappearance without having to manually remove it yourself or hire someone else too do so. This method tends to be more cost effective than mechanical grinding but may take longer depending on how deep rooted the stump is before treatment begins.

If you have multiple stumps that need removal, then hiring an arborist with experience in this field might be your best bet. They will have access to professional grade equipment such as chippers, chainsaws and other tools designed specifically for this purpose which could save you both time and money when compared with doing everything by hand yourself or hiring out each individual job separately. Additionally, they will know exactly what type of chemicals should be used (if any) based on their knowledge of local soil conditions and tree species so that you get optimal results every time.

How to Remove a Tree That’s Fallen Onto Your Roof

Northern Virginia has no shortage of trees, and any one of them could become a target for a natural disaster and fall onto your roof.

Tree fallen on roof of house

The cost of damage from weather-related disasters has skyrocketed. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) estimates storms and hurricanes inflict an average of $35 billion each year. Much of that damage is caused by high winds – and much of that figure comes from big trees falling on people’s houses. Tornadoes, thunderstorms, and hurricanes can suddenly put that magnificent old oak right in your living room.

If it happens to you, what do you do? You have two choices: Try to clean up the mess yourself or hire tree service pros to do it.

Check Your Insurance Policy

While you’re mulling that over, the first thing to do is check your insurance coverage.

Most homeowner’s policies cover wind damage to some extent, but the amount of coverage can vary widely, depending on factors like your deductible and the age of your roof. Call your agent right away.

The cost of property damage is just half of the equation. Getting rid of the tree is the other half. If it’s just a modest-sized limb, it might not set you back much, but if you have a full-blown tree resting on your roof, you’re looking at a major project that’s going to hit your pocketbook, whether DIY or done by pros.

Tempting as it might be to try to save money by taking the DIY route, going all Paul Bunyan on the project might not be a good idea. It can be dangerous work.

Danger Ahead!

Ladders

Worker falling off of a ladder

Using a ladder to get on your roof always carries the risk of falling, especially if you’re accessing a damaged roof through fallen tree branches.

Chainsaws

Man cutting a tree stump with a chainsaw

Chances are good, you’re not going to remove the tree intact. You’re going to have to cut it up. Unless you’re willing to spend a few months on the roof with a pruning saw, cutting it up will involve a chainsaw. Chainsaws can sever human limbs easier than tree limbs and should only be handled by someone who knows what they’re doing.

Electric Lines

Tree limbs tangled up in utility lines

Power lines often run through or near tree branches. Touching a line with a saw or any piece of equipment can have disastrous results. A severed limb can also bring down a power line as it falls, causing electrocution or a power outage.

Strategic Planning

If you go cutting tree limbs willy-nilly, odds are good you’ll cause more damage and possibly injuries. Planning is a must to determine where a limb or trunk will fall. Trees and their limbs and branches are very heavy. They can inflict considerable damage as they fall to your property – or your neighbor’s.

Once the tree is down and cut up, you’ll still have to deal with the cleanup, which will probably involve having debris hauled away.

Going with pros might be advisable:

  • They know how to do it. They do this for a living
  • They have the equipment to do it right. From chainsaws to cranes and trucks, professionals have the tools to do it quickly.

Tree fallen from strong winds

What About the Cost?

Cost is going to vary widely depending on factors like how large the tree is, how difficult it will be to remove it, how much time it will take and what kind of equipment will be needed. Get some estimates before you begin.

A Final Thought

You might mitigate the damage and costs by taking precautions, like keeping your trees healthy with annual checkups. Prune them and check for insects that could damage the trunk and roots. Keep in mind: Over-watering will give trees weak root systems and make them more vulnerable to toppling in strong winds.

Benefits of Early Tree Training

Wondering how to get your apple tree to produce more fruit and lean in a certain direction? The answer is elemen-tree. Early training and pruning encourage trees to grow tall and strong. By pruning your tree a year after you plant it, you can direct the tree to provide shade exactly where you need it.

_MG_6855 Pruning and training young apple trees//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js

There are plenty of other benefits of early tree training.

  • Fruit trees will produce sooner and live longer.
  • They’ll bear fleshier fruit
  • Need less trimming and maintenance as they mature
  • Training enables trees to fight off pests and diseases.
  • Pruning keeps their size manageable and allows light and air to filter through.
  • Strong wind and snowstorms are less apt to damage sculpted tree branches.
  • Removing diseased, damaged, and dead debris encourages healthy growth.

Tree topping and pruning are easier when trunks are trained to a good shape. Knowing how and when to prune each seedling is the key to a lovely landscape.

The Right Tools

work, hand, branch, sharp, plastic, isolated, tool, steel, equipment, instrument, metal, object, garden, weapon, knife, appliance, cut, background, gardening, pliers, handles, clipper, blade, propeller, shears, trim, metallic, accessory, scissors, cutter, pruning, pruner, trimmer, needle nose pliers, pruning shears, secateurs, aircraft engine, hedging, lopping, snipping, diagonal pliers, lineman's pliers, snips, Free Images In PxHere

The best way to landscape starts with the right pruning tools.

Bypass snips and pruners take care of the lighter jobs. Use these to cut branches up to 3/4 inches in diameter. The Virginia Tech extension office recommends avoiding anvil pruners, which tend to give you a sloppier cut. Loppers, pruning saws, trimmers, and pole saws will handle the heavier branches. These tools are available at your local garden center, along with instructions on how to care for them.

It’s not enough just to store these tools in your shed. Proper cleaning is essential to avoid spreading leaf spot disease from one maple to the next. The tools should also be sharpened yearly to avoid cutting with a dull blade, which will injure your tree. Most local nurseries offer tool sharpening services.

Planting and Training

Tree species and growth habits determine the training system to use. Virginia oak trees have a strong central leader stem (the trunk). Visualize what the tree will look like as it grows and thickens. Decide which scaffolding branches to keep and which to remove. Branches do not rise above the ground; they always retain their position on the trunk.

Pro tip: Trim scaffolding branches vertically and radially to help them grow like “shelving”.

Seasonal care depends on the type of trees on your property. The process of training typically begins a year after the sapling is planted and continues for three to five years (or until the tree is well established). Most training is needed only during the growing season. (Prune after the tree enters dormancy in late fall and early spring).

Pruning Systems

Arborists recommend three pruning systems:

  1. The Open Center Training System features a vase shape where the trunk center has no actual main branch. OCT systems are mostly used on fruit trees.
  2. Central Leader Systems train trees to have dominant trunks and scaffold “shelves” in different angles. Shapes are like Christmas trees and are typical of most natural growth habits. Some trees with a dominant central leader trunk include oaks, sycamores, maples, and some fruit varieties.
  3. The Modified Central Leader System is a combination of the OCT and the Central Leader System. Young trees follow the central leader method, but when the main lateral branches develop, the central leader is removed. Forked main trunks are trained like this.

Tree Types

Benefits of Early Tree Training

Just like a fingerprint, no tree is exactly like another. Various species have different growth patterns — the environment plays a part, too. Some trees like mulberry, maple, and flowering dogwoods quickly grow all season. Pines are trained when their “candles” finish spring growth. (Pines can be trimmed into shapes when the candles are still tan in color). Train pine trees before new needles appear.

Caring for trees and bushes should be on your outdoor to-do list. Creating a maintenance plan helps, especially when storms damage trees on your property. The best part about training a tree is that, unlike a dog, trees won’t jump up on you for a treat afterward.

Jim Seth climbed his first tree at the age of 3, and has been in love with saplings and conifers ever since. As a certified arborist, he spends a lot of time at the top these days, pruning and caring for trees, but his parents say it’s a lot easier to get him down these days.

Seasonal Tree Care Recommendations

Landscaping and tree care can be one of the most satisfying aspects of being a homeowner, and if done properly, it can add significant value to your home’s market value. Despite this, there is a lot to keep in mind, particularly when it comes to seasonal tree care.

If you are unsure of where to begin or are unsure of how to properly care for the trees on your property, including when to prune them, there is assistance available to you.

Here’s a quick reference guide to keep your seasonal tree care on track throughout the year.

Spring Tree Care

It is critical to inspect trees and shrubs for chewing insects before planting. As soon as you discover them, take immediate action to get rid of them because they can cause irreversible damage to the tree if not treated immediately. If any trees have been damaged by winter snow or wind, make arrangements to have them repaired. As you plant new trees this month, be careful not to plant them too close to your home because tree roots can cause serious damage to your home’s sewage system and foundation as the roots grow. Make certain that you choose trees that are native to your area in order to achieve the best results.

Culpeper tree maintenance by Genesis Tree Service

Arborist performing summer tree care services in Culpeper

Summer Tree Care

Many people come outside to enjoy the sunshine and warmth during the summer months in Culpeper, which is one of its most beautiful seasons. However, if your trees are not properly watered, the heat can cause them to suffer serious damage. Providing water for your trees is critical if you live in a dry climate or in an area affected by a drought. During the spring and summer months, as well as into the fall, you can spread some mulch around the trunks of your trees to provide nourishment. This will aid in the preservation of the integrity of the root systems and the overall health of your trees.

Fall Tree Care

Autumn is the time of year when the weather begins to cool down and the leaves on your trees begin to fall. Because heavy, wet snow can weigh down branches and limbs and cause them to break, now is the time to trim your trees in preparation for winter. This can be extremely dangerous to both people and property, so don’t put off completing this extremely important task. Do you have questions about how to properly trim or prune your tree? The professionals at Genesis Tree Service can assist you in providing tips so that you can be confident that the pruning will not cause damage to the tree.

Winter Tree Care

The cold and ice of winter can be harsh on your trees, but with proper care, they can survive and thrive. To reduce the risk of disease spreading to trees that are particularly susceptible to it (for example, crabapples) make sure to remove fallen leaves from beneath the tree’s canopy. During the late winter months, trim any overgrown branches to ensure that they will recover quickly in the spring with new growth.

Tree removal being done in the winter

Winter is a good time for tree removal in Culpeper

It’s perfectly acceptable if you don’t feel qualified to do your own tree care on your property. It is preferable to leave it to arborists rather than neglecting the trees or pruning them incorrectly. Our professionals at Genesis Tree Service are tree experts in any season, so you can rely on us to assist you with any year-round issues that may arise with your trees. Contact us today to learn more about our tree maintenance services.

Take care of your trees is not only a matter of aesthetics; it is also a matter of life and death when it comes to their safety. If you are unable to care for your trees yourself, it is critical that you have someone else do so.

Had a good experience with this company. When they installed my irrigation system a few years ago, I forgot to mark where the inground control valve boxes were located. Fast forward a few years, I contacted them to see if they had diagrams so that I could locate one of these boxes and they sent someone out free of charge (and found the valve box). I also used them to conduct my first years spring/winter servicing after the system was installed. I would recommend this company to others and would consider them for future requirements.

Only if there was a grade of zero stars.
Anyone using Irrigation Professionals for sprinkler work should BEWARE. They (or I should say the rep Geary Powell) promise you the sky and deliver zero. Paid $1200 deposit, no one showed up on the day of installation. Asked for a refund at the end of last month and got nothing. Sent a reminder earlier this month and was informed that refunds are paid out middle and end of the month. Sent a reminder for refund middle of this month and you guessed it, got nothing. Now having to go through my bank for a dispute resolution wasting hours of my time. Hope I wouldn’t have to go to court over this.

Can’t get on the phone, can’t get the through email, nor text message which they use to communicate with all customers. Pretty obvious that they are ignoring my request. After getting my system activated by a very friendly and helpful technician my system stopped working completely. It worked perfectly when he turned it on, but once I tried to run a cycle to get my lawn watered that same evening the system did not work at all. I tried emailing them, calling multiple times a d texting no one ever answers me, they don’t return your calls nor messages so plain and simple they are horrible when it comes to attending to any issues with the system after they install it. I’m a business owner and I will tell everyone I know not to go with this company because they will not attend to it nor ever respond. Go elsewhere I recommend.

I live out rural and Everbrook was the closest option for childcare for us that was not at a church or private home. I wasn’t sure at first what to expect from a childcare setting so I enrolled in two different facilities half time. Everbrook exceeded my expectations on many levels and surpassed their competitor. I noticed an excitement in my 20 month old at the time when we would go to ‘school’ at Everbrook than when we attended the other daycare. He wasn’t sad at either but he really lit up at the door of Everbrook. Being that I was a nervous-new mom I spent a lot of time communicating (probably annoying everyone) at both facilities and I ultimately felt that my concerns were validated and met with resolution at Everbrook more graciously than the other. The camera system here is a game changer for me, I can pop in and see my child thriving, and engaged with other kids and it brings me a sense of calm and joy. I also watched my child blossom from a shy, quiet little singleton into a social butterfly that suddenly knew sign language and the names of all his classmates. I owe a lot of his developmental success to Everbrooks teachers. One thing I was not thrilled with by either facility was the monitoring of water intake, we only dealt with constipation after starting daycare so I had to closely monitor and remind his teachers to ensure he had a full water bottle accessible. The other aspect I did not enjoy was the provided diet. I noticed a lot of the snacks are high in added sugar(but so delicious) and other main dish items were not something I would feed at home based on nutritional value alone. I believe most facilities use a federally implemented nutrition guide so it probably wasn’t their fault. My sons iron level dropped a bit but with a medical exemption to provide his meals so long as they didn’t include common allergens it popped back up in a short time. This dietary issue was something I noticed at both facilities we were attending. Most kids do well I am sure but for our family we need a certain type of balance. Everbrooks director heard my concern on a personal and professional level and gave me the option of resolution. I can say I am honestly excited to be bringing my child back here after pulling him at the start of the pandemic, and this time his baby brother will be joining him as well and I know they’re going to love every single day.

After the in-home childcare we used for 8+ years retired in 2020, we chose Everbrook to care for our youngest child. Having used a smaller setting for so many years, moving to the larger facility-like childcare came with some apprehension. However, after meeting with Nikki and touring the facility our minds were put at ease. We were doing everything possible to keep our family safe, and yet our 3 yo started attending Everbrook full time during the height of the pandemic. The first class cleanliness and care that has been taken during this unsettling time is what sets them apart from the other available childcare options. While those first few days were emotional, by the end of the week, our kiddo was excited for school and that excitement hasn’t waned since the start. Our little one is eager to get to school to see what’s in store for the day; whether it’s learning to read or taking part in an engineering assignment, painting or playing with playdoh, the day is ever changing and always engaging. When it’s time to eat, I find the culinary creations and Everbrooks ability to get my kiddo to eat to be some sort of magic. From the moment we are greeted in the morning to the time we are wished a good night, selecting Everbrook for our families last 2 years of childcare was the best decision we could have made for our child.

Deckscapes was recommended to us by family friends, and we are also pleased with the work and happy to provide a similar recommendation. Deckscapes removed an existing patio, installed a new one, and built a 16′ x 20′ elevated screen-in porch above it. I inspected the progress every day and was pleased with the quality of the workmanship. The designers were skilled at providing us design options, which were then executed professionally and accurately by the construction teams. The project went very well and we are thrilled with the result. Some minor issues were encountered, and a small amount of rework was required, but overall an excellent company, product and experience.

For a dog park it is OK. The normal group shows up about 630 pm everyday. The bad part is that it isn’t mowed nearly enough and bags aren’t filled often. The puppy area is clean and the older dog area is as clean as any dog park. So overall go for meeting other dogs and not for the care for the area.

Nice. I have no pictures of the food. Service was ok however when arriving we stood at the front desk next to the “wait to be seated” sign for a good couple minutes till I was out the door someone finally came and said they were “sorry, I was just uhhh…” and she stopped herself from finishing after she saw how upset I was. We finally got back and saw a table of 3 ederly folk eating. There was only one other table. Why had we waited so long for service? Food was nice, bathrooms need to be restocked often, and wine was good. Customer service needs some tweaking and more attention to when people walk in.

NEXT POST: Proper Tree Care Tips After A Storm

Published first here: https://genesistreeservice.net/manassas/manassas-park-va/

Storm Damage: Proper Tree Care Tips After A Storm

The residents of Manassas and other areas in Prince William, Fairfax, and Loudoun Counties had to deal with flooding as a result of Tropical Depression Ida. For many homeowners, their yard trees took quite a beating from the heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. In fact, some of these trees may not recover if the proper steps are not taken to undo the effects of the storm damage. Damage to trees may also be the result of lightning, strong winds, or even freezing rain or ice.

How to assess a damaged tree

If your tree does sustain damage, the first step is to assess the severity. If it’s an unexpected storm that damaged your tree (like a hurricane), it’s likely that one or more branches have broken off. If the damage is minor, you can wait for the tree to heal on its own and then cover the broken branch with a cable to strengthen the crown.

Causes of storm damage in Prince William County

A tree can be damaged in many ways. One common way is the tree being struck by lightning and having to act as an earthing element, which could lead to a near-collapse or near-complete destruction of the tree. If the tree has been struck by lightning, then you need to assess if it is still attached to the ground. If it is not, then you must consider taking action to remove it immediately. If the tree is still attached to the ground, then you need to assess whether or not the tree needs urgent attention.

Another common way is a storm carrying a lot of wind and rain, which can cause branches to break off. After a storm in Manassas, VA, trees may become so damaged that they need to be removed. While this is not always the case, a wait-and-see approach is not the best to go. Bear in mind that pests see an opening in a tree as an invitation to settle in, which is harmful to the tree.

Storm damage inspection Northern Virginia

It may be possible to save the tree by assessing the damage and taking care of the tree’s wounds. Some of the things to look out for when assessing your trees in Manassas, VA include:

  • Hanging or broken branches
  • Splits in tree branches
  • Holes, splits, or cavities in the tree trunk
  • Entire tree leaning

Arborists can help you determine if a tree needs to be removed. This is why we recommend that you call a professional arborist in Manassas, VA when you find broken limbs on your tree for proper healing and safety. Generally, if your tree lost more than 50% of its top, it may have to be removed. In contrast, If at least 50% of the canopy is undamaged, it can stay afloat without help from your local arborist.

Storm damage restoration: How to repair a damaged tree

The best approach for repairing a damaged tree will largely depend on the kind of damage you are dealing with.

Repair broken branches

When dealing with tree injuries like broken tree limbs, you can prune any small, broken branches to prevent further damage. You could also cable between weakened branches to strengthen crowns.

Split Forks are often used to fix damaged branches. Split forks consist of two pieces that should be inserted into the broken branch and then tightened with a wrench. This will help prevent the branch from breaking into smaller pieces.

Cable Splices are another option that can be used to strengthen damaged branches. They consist of two steel wires that are attached to each end of the branch. The wires are then used to tie the branch to other branches that are strong enough to support it.

When dealing with larger injuries, you can make a splint out of a board and a pair of 2×4’s. Cut the 2×4’s in half to make two pieces that are long enough to span the width of the branch. Then, tie them together using a cable splice.

Repairing a broken trunk

A different approach is needed when you are dealing with a broken trunk. The best way to repair a broken trunk is by cleaning the wound and cutting away any loose bark. Then seal in place with a coat of wood glue. If done right, the wound will heal itself through the growth of callus tissue.

If a tree trunk has a wound that is larger than 1½ to 2 inches in diameter, this can be treated with wound dressings or pruning paint. Recent research has shown that dressings and paints probably do not increase the rate of healing, but may prevent drying out for a better cosmetic effect.

Repairing a torn bark

A torn bark can cause harm to the tree’s health and should be removed as soon as possible. To remove the bark, you can use a knife to cut around the damaged area and push inwards towards the tree’s trunk. Carefully cut all loose bark back to the area where it is solidly attached. Trimming in this manner will encourage rapid healing with minimal decay

Homeowners insurance covers tree removal

Homeowners insurance covers tree removal in case of a storm that has damaged your trees. Storms have a huge impact on tree damage that could be expensive to deal with. If your tree is damaged during a storm, contact your homeowner or renter’s insurance company to file a claim for good measure. Because good tree care is straightforward and relatively inexpensive, you can expect a quick response from your insurer.

What is the best way to prepare for a storm?

It’s really important to assess which trees are more vulnerable to damage before a storm occurs. This will save you a lot of money and effort that you would otherwise spend on storm damage repair and storm cleanup. Dead wood, decaying areas, and weak limbs could lead to more trees falling or becoming damaged during a storm.

Proper tree maintenance will help prevent tree falls during storms. For instance, thinning out the canopy can help prevent tree falls and ensure the safety of your family and the property. Tree services for storm preparation also include removing dead or damaged limbs, as well as pruning and potentially installing cabling and bracing for weak trees.

Benefits of Mulch & Tree Mulching Services

What is the purpose of mulching trees?

Mulch is a layered mixture of organic material that has been spread over the soil surface to improve its appearance. A fresh layer of mulch is the best way to bring your landscape to life. Not only does mulch make your plants look great, but it also provides several positive benefits, such as preventing excessive weed growth and competition for water.

Spreading mulch around trees for landscaping is not to be confused with tree mulching, also known as forestry mulching. We will cover what forestry mulching is and what to look for when hiring a tree mulching service later in this post.

Photo of mulch piled up after a tree mulching service in Falls Church VA

Mulch piled up after a tree mulching service

Benefits of Mulched Landscaping in Falls Church, VA

Adding mulch to your yard will give it a clean, finished appearance. Bark mulch is ideal for use around trees and landscape plants. According to old research, mulch can cause deficiencies in plants by tying up soil nutrition as it breaks down. The nitrogen deficiency only exists at the mulch/soil surface and has no impact on established tree roots, as proven by further research.

Organic mulch offers additional benefits besides just improving curb appeal. Some of the benefits include:

  • Retains moisture in the soil to help keep the plant nourished
  • Prevents weeds from growing (weed control)
  • Reduces soil erosion
  • Depending on what type of wood is mulched, mulch can repel insects (pest control)

How to mulch around your trees roots

Mulch is great for the environment and your tree’s health. Mulch should be 2-3 inches deep around your trees to protect them from harsh weather conditions, such as cold winters or hot summers. The extra layer provides insulation to keep the roots warm in wintertime and cool during summer heat waves. This creates optimum growing conditions so that it can grow big strong leaves! Mulched areas also add nutrients back into soil which help with root growth too.

Tree mulching is the process of removing the top layer soil and replacing it with a natural resource such as woodchips. The most important factor to consider when tree mulching is making sure that this material does not get too close to the tree’s trunk; typically 1-2 inches away from the base will suffice.

Watering landscaping trees with drip irrigation is fairly common in Falls Church, Virginia. Drip irrigation feeds plant roots slowly. The root zone is moist but not waterlogged, allowing for optimal root growth. It also reduces flooding and drying stress on roots.

Studies show that drip irrigation saves up to 70% more water than sprinklers. Watering the root zone rather than the aisles between rows reduces weeds. Since nutrient concentration occurs near water, drip irrigation saves nutrients by allowing the root zone to retain more water.

Cover drip lines around trees with mulch such as wood chips, dry grass clippings, straw, hay, or compost to save water. Less evaporation occurs when mulch is present. Mulch also controls annual weeds. Mulch shades soil and prevents weeds from germinating, but remove all weed seed from mulch before applying.

Falls Church Tree Mulching Service

Tree mulching is not the same thing as spreading mulch around trees. Mulching trees is a process for clearing land of trees and vegetation to make way for development and construction. Traditional land clearing methods typically used the pile-and-burn method where trees would be felled and pushed into large piles to be burned.

Modern land clearing uses forestry mulching equipment to shred and grind trees and brush into mulch to be recycled back into the ground.

What is Forestry Mulching?

In densely wooded areas, forestry mulching may be the best option. To improve the forest’s topsoil, forestry mulching uses one huge piece of equipment to shred trees into mulch.

Forestry mulching equipment ranges from skid steers to excavators with attachments. The tool has a rotary drum with steel teeth. They “eat” trees by grinding their bark, leaves and roots into soil-nourishing nutrients.

Unlike traditional forestry, forestry mulching is a one-step clearing. On-site recycling saves trees from being cut down and sold as lumber. Both options have value depending on your needs and the land, though forestry mulching is gaining popularity.

Because forestry mulching has many benefits. Most places don’t require a permit for tree clearing. You also won’t have to worry about erosion or soil degradation. Traditional methods cause soil compaction, erosion, and topsoil destruction.

Traditional tree clearing is a time-consuming, lengthy, inefficient process involving multiple pieces of equipment. Forestry mulching is a one-step process. Moreover, forestry mulching does not necessitate hauling or burning. So you save money.

Plus, forest mulching works well in muddy or wet conditions. Traditional tree clearing is more weather dependent, requiring relatively dry soil.

Forest mowing may be an option in areas with brush and small trees but no large trees. Forest mowing can remove 8-inch-diameter trees and brush. It’s ideal for clearing trails and invasive species. The mulch left behind will feed woodlands and encourage native growth. Forest mowing is popular for trail and park maintenance.

Forestry Mulching Fairfax County VA

A tree mulcher is used for forestry mulching

Additional Mulching Services

Consider brush mulching or hydro ax mulching in addition to standard forestry mulcher services. Brush mulching is exactly that. Brush mulching mulches shrubbery and underbrush rather than large trees. Like forestry mulching, this is usually done on-site by professionals, making it a one-step process.

Hydro ax mulching is a specialized mulching method. The hydro ax blades rise to the top of small trees and then descend, destroying everything in their path. For larger trees, the blades hack at the trunk until it falls. Then a professional team will use a hydro ax to mulch the fallen tree. A hydro ax is entertaining to watch! But this bulldozer-wood chipper combo clears trees quickly. It’s a great way to get rid of large trees and brush quickly. Because it’s dangerous, you’ll need to hire a pro.

What is the average cost of mulching services?

The cost of clearing land varies depending on your needs. The land type and your project requirements will all influence the final land clearing cost per acre – typically about $2 per square foot – which quickly adds up to thousands of dollars when clearing multiple acres. However, in heavily wooded areas or where trees are exceptionally tall, these costs can be much higher.

Forestry mulching instead of tree clearing may save you money. Forestry mulching removes trees and brush like tree clearing, but at a lower cost. An acre of land usually costs $400-600. You won’t even have to pay for cleanup. Instead, it stays to help the soil.

Brush clearing costs less, sometimes only a few hundred dollars per acre. But it depends on the brush density. In overgrown areas, costs may rise.

And these are all estimates. They don’t include labor costs, which vary by location. They also don’t include fees like a new survey if yours is out of date. Getting multiple bids from Fairfax tree clearing companies is always the best way to go.
